Ganapathi Sukta

S01 E01

वक्रतुंड महाकाय

सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ ।

निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव

सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा ।।


Transcript:

Vakratunda mahakaya

sooryakodi samaprabha

Nirvignam kuru me deva

sarvakaryeshu sarvadha

       

Word by word translation:

वक्रतुंड -  Vakratunda -Curved trunk

महाकाय - Mahakaaya - big body

सूर्यकोटि- Suryakoti -  1000 sun

समप्रभ - Samaprabha - same divine light

।निर्विघ्नं - Nirvighnam- without any blockages

कुरु - Kuru - do

मे -mea - me

 देव - Deva - God

सर्व-Sarva -All

कार्येषु - karyeshu -  activities

सर्वदा - Sarvadha - every time

 

Translation: 

Oh Lord one who have curved trunk

large body shine like 1000 sun

kindly make my all activities

without any disturbance

यज्जाग्रतो दूरमुदैति दैवं तदु सुप्तस्य तथैवैति ।

दूरङ्गमं ज्योतिषां ज्योतिरेकं तन्मे मनः शिवसङ्कल्पमस्तु

 
Latin Transcript:

yajjāgrato dūram udaiti daivaṁ tad u suptasya tathaivaiti;

dūraṅgamaṁ jyotiṣāṁ jyotir ekaṁ tan me manaḥ śivasaṅkalpam astu .

 

Word by word translation

 यज्जाग्रतो : aware state

दूरमुदैति very far

 दैवं God

तदु that

सुप्तस्य sleeping person

तथैवैति ।like

दूरङ्गमं far

ज्योतिषां astrology

 ज्योतिरेकं light

तन्मे for me

मनः mind

शिवसङ्कल्पमस्तु with benevolent intention

 

Translation

 That divine which rises afar in waking, that also moves the same way in sleep;
One far-going light of lights, may that be my mind, with benevolent intention. 

Bhagavad Geeta

S01 E03

ब्रह्मार्पणं ब्रह्म हविर्ब्रह्माग्न‍ ब्रह्मणा हुतम् ।

ब्रह्मैव तेन गन्तव्यं ब्रह्मकर्मसमाधिना ॥ २४ ॥

brahmārpaṇaṁ brahma havir

brahmāgnau brahmaṇā hutam

brahmaiva tena gantavyaṁ

brahma-karma-samādhinā

 

Word by word translation

 ब्रह्मा brahma — spiritual in nature;

ब्रह्मार्पणंarpaṇam — contribution;

ब्रह्मा- brahma — the Supreme;

हविर- haviḥ — butter;

ब्रह्मा-brahma — spiritual;

अग्न  -agneau — in the fire of consummation;

ब्रह्मणा -Brahmaṇā — by the spirit soul;

हुतम्  -Hutam — offered;

ब्रह्मा- brahma — spiritual kingdom;

एव -eva — certainly;

तेन-tena — by him;

गन्तव्यं-Gantavyam — to be reached;

ब्रह्मा-brahma — spiritual;

कर्म-karma — in activities;

समाधिना-samādhinā — by complete absorption.

 

Translation

A person who is fully absorbed in Kṛṣṇa consciousness is sure to attain the spiritual kingdom because of his full contribution to spiritual activities, in which the consummation is absolute and that which is offered is of the same spiritual nature.


Shivasangalpa Sutra

S01 E04

Sanskrit 

यस्मिन्नृचं सम यजुङि, यस्मिं

 प्रतिष्ठितारथनाभवविरः।

यस्मिंश्चितं सर्वमोतं प्रजानां

तन्मे मन: शिवसंकल्पमस्तु

 

Transcription

yasminṛcaḥ sāma yajūṁṣi yasmim pratiṣṭhitā rathanābhā vavirāḥ;

yasmiṁścitaṁ sarvam otaṁ prajānāṁ tan me manaḥ śivasaṅkalpam astu

 

Word by word meaning

यस्मिं.Yasmim- in which

न्नृचं - nricham-Rigsutra

सम :Yasmin richa saama- which are ṛc, sām

यजुङि : Yajoomsi - Yajus (name of the veda)

यस्मिं  : Yasmim- in which

प्रतिष्ठितारथनाभवविरः  : Prathishtitaa rathanaabha vavira - fixed

यस्मिं-Yasmim -On  which 

श्चितं  : chitam-  whole chitam (conscious mind, mental processes)

सर्वमोतं  : Sarvamotam - beings is woven,

प्रजानां : Prajaanaam- people

तन्मे  : Tanme -may mind

मन:-Mana - mind 

शिव- Shiva-God shiva

संकल्पमस्तु  : sangalpamastu-  Benevolent intention.

 

Translation

That in which are richa  sāma and yajus, in which they are fixed, as in a wheel-hub are spokes.

That on which the whole chitta of beings is woven, may that be my mind, with benevolent intention.


Note 

In sanskrit vedic tradition sometimes the reading style and writing pattern was different . Vedas are orally transmitted in that time prakrit sanskrit was used . The way of chanting and writing may be different due to the peculiarities of Sanskrit .


Vishnu Stotram

S01 E05

Sanskrit

शांताकारं भुजगशयनं पद्मनाभं सुरेशम्

विश्वाधारं गगनसदृशं मेघवर्णं शुभाङ्गम् ।

लक्ष्मीकान्तं कमलनयनं योगिभिर्ध्यानगम्यम्

वन्दे विष्णुं भवभयहरं सर्वलोकैकनाथम् ॥ ॥

 

Transcript

Shantaakaaram bhujakashayanam Patbhanaabham suresham

Vishwaadaaram gaganasadrisham megavarnam subhangam

Lakshmikaatham kamalanayanam yogibhirdhyaana gammyam

Vande vishnum bhava bhaya haram sarva lokaika natham

 

Word by Word meaning

शांताकारं = Shaantaakaaram – The one having a peaceful or serene form;

भुजगशयनं = Bhujakashayanam - One who is sleeping on a snake as the bed;

पद्मनाभं = Padbhanaabham - The one having a lotus at the navel, Vishnu;

सुरेशं = Suresham - The master of the gods;

विश्वाधारं =Viswaaadhaaram– The one who is the support or basis for the Universe;

गगनसदृशं =  Gaganasadrisham  - One who is like the sky;

मेघवर्णं =Meghavarnam - Having the color of the cloud;

शुभाङ्गं = Shubhaangam - The one with the auspicious body;

लक्ष्मीकान्तं = Laksmiikaantam - Husband of Laxmi;

कमलनयनं = Kamalanayanam - The lotus-eyed person;

योगिभिः = Yogibhihi –Yogis;

ध्यान = Dhyaana – Meditation;

गम्यं = Gamya –Reaching;

वन्दे = Vandea – I worship; bow

विष्णुं = Vishnum-Vishnu;

भवभयहरं = Bhavabhayaharam - One who removes or takes away the fear caused by

the `bhava' of births and deaths;

सर्व =  Sarva - All

लोकैक =Lokaika – Of the world;

नाथं = Naatham - The lord or husband

 

Translation.

Salutations to Lord Vishnu, the one with peaceful disposition,

one who is reclining over the soft coil-bed of the Serpent God,

the one with a lotus growing in his navel, the leader of the gods,

the support of the universe, all-pervasive like the ether,

cloud-colored one, auspicious-bodied one, the Spouse of Laxmi, lotus

eyed one, visible to the yogis in their meditations, remover of the

fear of the rounds of rebirth, the unique Lord of all the worlds,

Salutations !
